Jon Isherwood has pioneered the integration of digital technology with traditional stone carving, creating sculptures that push the boundaries of what's possible in granite and marble. His work explores the intersection of ancient craft and cutting-edge technology.

Artist Statement

"My work investigates the sites where the intellectual and physical become visually entangled. Through the fusion of traditional stone carving with digital technologies, I explore new possibilities in form and surface that were previously unimaginable."

"Stone has been humanity's most enduring artistic medium for millennia. By introducing CNC technology and digital design into this ancient practice, I'm not replacing the hand of the artist but extending its reach, allowing for precision and complexity that enhances rather than diminishes the emotional impact of the work."

"Each sculpture begins as a digital vision, but the final work emerges through a dialogue between technology and the inherent qualities of the stone itself. The material always has the final say, and that tension between control and discovery drives my practice forward."

The Digital Stone Project

Founded by Jon Isherwood, The Digital Stone Project is revolutionizing the ancient art of stone carving. This innovative initiative brings together:

  • Advanced CNC technology for precise stone carving
  • 3D scanning and digital design capabilities
  • Collaboration between artists and technologists
  • Workshops and residencies for emerging sculptors
  • Research into sustainable stone working practices

The project has enabled artists worldwide to explore new possibilities in stone sculpture, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in this timeless medium.
